Fandoms are a real thing. Fandoms exist entirely because like-minded people find something in common with other people who enjoy the same things you enjoy. I have been a member of MANY fandoms in my life, and I have ALWAYS been intrigued by the sense of community that surrounds them.
My favorite thing to do when I don't know someone is to ask them which fandoms they belong to. This question usually gets me a funny face and a scrambled answer, but as a general rule it is a good way to break the ice. Talking to someone about their fandoms is the best way that I have found to bring out someone's genuine personality. Fans relate to other fans.
I have been a fangirl for as long as I can remember, but I have never really engaged much with OTHER people or strangers? Like I have always meant to be more involved but for one reason or another I just sort of remained in the background, ingrained in the woodwork, or hiding under a rock and expressing my feelings to myself in the tags of my tumblr posts for all of my different fan blogs. Weird right? The background/woodwork life is perfect for many people and sometimes is what is preferred. I never wanted that. I did this to myself by staying quiet in my fandoms for so long, but dammit now I want to change that. I want to be a bigger part. I need to be.
YouTube has been my solace for many many years. Since April 9th, 2009 to be exact. I logged into my account that I had really only made for school related things and the like because a friend from school told me that her older sister went to see a Harry Potter fanmade musical at her college in Michigan and that the plan had been to post it for free on YouTube. I HAD to find this.
And here we are. The other night while I was reading comments on someone else's video I thought to myself how amazing it must be for this small creator to have so many people actually showing a genuine interest and caring about their well being and life. I realized in a sort of weird epiphany moment that I don't have to just keep being alone and feeling sorry for myself. I may have lost my entire family, but maybe I can pick a new one now?
That being said, I really need your help. The way that I actually retain information about things like bands and shows is by experiencing them myself, but I also remember things easier when the information comes from someone who genuinely cares about the thing or person they are talking about. I need some new fandoms to jump into, but I don't want to do so with google. I would LOVE it if you would come and subscribe over at my channel or just drop a comment below telling me what things YOU fan out about more than anything else. Why is it just the best thing ever? What makes that person so attractive? Why are you so sure those people are in a relationship? Send me stuffs!!! If you let me know what your fandoms are I will definitely get back to you so we can chit chat and you can point me in the right direction OR maybe you could just join me on my journey and see if you can get me to become a massive fangirl for all of YOUR stuff.
I cannot wait to meet you.
